ISSS Virtual Roundtable Discussion on Intervention in Afghanistan post-911 and U.S. National Security Policy
International Studies Association (ISA) Global Conversations Series

With the departure of the last U.S. soldier in Afghanistan (commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, XVIII Airborne Corps, Major General Chris Donahue) and Ambassador to Afghanistan Ross Wilson on a C-17 transport plane leaving Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport on August 30th, the United States was forced to acknowledge its failure in Afghanistan. This roundtable discussion will address the drivers and dynamics of the US defense establishment’s 20-year campaign, and the implications of its intervention for U.S. national security policy and beyond. This roundtable will feature leading experts on international security, U.S. national security policy and section members. This is the first in a series of panels to be hosted by ISSS on this theme.
